The Société Française des Sciences de l'Information et de la Communication (SFSIC) is a French language association of researchers in information and communication studies. Founded in 1974, the association has 450 members located in universities and other research, educational and related organisations.
Our purpose is to bring together researchers seeking to develop the field and to help represent their interests within and beyond the Human and Social Sciences. An elected board of twenty persons overviews our work in three areas headed by the Educational, Research and International Committees.

We have three main goals:
First, we provide support for various research centres, thereby helping academics finance and attend conferences relating to the field.
Second, we organize international events in collaboration with international and French partners. In recent years, we have hosted workshops and round tables in Tunis (World Summit on the Information Society) on the role of the media in developing countries. Thanks to the support of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we took part in the IAMCR conferences in Barcelona (2001) and Porto Alegre (2004)
Third, we work to establish and reinforce contact between French researchers and their colleagues, both in France and abroad.
Our website www.sfsic.org, with news of interest to our community, is supplemented by a weekly newsletter entitled “SFSIC Info.”
We have institutional ties with various international associations including the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), the International Communication Association (ICA), the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA), INTERCOM (in Brazil), AMIC (in Mexico), and the International Federation of Communication Associations (IFCA). We maintain close links with national associations in Germany, England, Scotland, Spain, and in other countries.
